Reiki
What is Reiki
Reiki comes from a Japanese words, “rei” meaning universal, and “Ki” meaning life’s energy.
Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. When energy passageways are blocked, positive healing energy cannot flow to certain parts of the body, which results in mood swings, fear, anger, pain, and more. Reiki can help clear these passages.
Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Reiki improves the low energy around the body and can enable relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing, and reduce symptoms of many other illnesses. Reiki helps the body to return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease. The Reiki practitioner is not what causes the healing, nor are they the source of the healing energy; they are a channel for the energy- similar to the way a garden hose acts as a channel for water. Although Reiki is often considered like meditation a spiritual practice although it is not religious or associated with a religion in any way
Because Reiki works on the entire self- mind, body, and emotions- and because it is a universal life force energy, reiki is successful in all types of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing
Some reiki practitioners will use crystals and chakra healing wands to enable healing or protect a patient from negative energy Sometimes even done remotely using an object or photo..
Reiki differs from other touch therapies in the way that there is no pressure, massage, or manipulation involved
Reiki has been proven to work in many studies; A Yale study showed increased activity of the healthy arm of the nervous system, decreased depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
Portuguese researcher Zilda Alarcao and her colleagues looked at the impact of reiki treatment versus sham or fake reiki in two groups of patients with blood cancer. Each group contained 59 patients who received an hour long treatment once a week for four weeks—either someone trained to administer reiki worked on them or someone pretending to do reiki (shame reiki) spent an hour with them. The researchers found the patients who received real reiki showed significantly more improvements than the other group in general, physical, environmental, and social dimensions of quality of life.
Reiki is so beneficial that 15% of U.S. hospitals currently offer it as a complementary treatment and leading institutes like Yale, Harvard, the University of Minnesota, the University of Arizona, UCLA, and Others offer reiki as a complement to medical interventions
What happens?
During a Reiki session the client will lay completely clothed on a table, while, the practitioner holds their hands lightly on or over the body, an energy transfer takes place. During this time the patient sometimes feels heat coming from the practitioner’s hands or tingling/heat in the areas that is being worked on but the most common reaction is deep relaxation. The practitioner stands over the patient holding their hands lightly on or over the body, an energy transfer takes place. During this time the patient accepts and absorbs the energy the practitioner is guiding into their body allowing the body to become energetically balanced- physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Reiki sessions usually last around 60 minutes and the practitioners spend 3-10 minutes holding their hands above the clients in different spots, sometimes writing ancient symbols to help raise the level of energy and healing, sometimes chanting the mantras that go with the symbols.

It is important to remember that Reiki should never take the place of medical treatments. Reiki is mostly seen as a complementary therapy by mainstream medicine and is intended to be used alongside standard medical care-not in place of it
